tron was very confusing, although Noah seemed to like it. Too many holes in the story for me....like...where exactly are they? the digital world they inhabit is way far fetched, much more ridiculous than, say, Atlanta or Portland....but maybe not quite as riduculous as paterson n.j., where i, by the way, was born well over 20 years ago.

skied tonight at bolton under the lights...a frigid night...must have been under zero. alone, too cold for noah and lulu and they backed out on me. fish and chips and a couple of pints of guinness for dinner.

on one run i swear i must have been going over 50mph...fastest i've ever skied in my life....kinda scary.

old notes to myself about old songs...circa 98?

1. Attention –about a crooked politician, youth long lost, in bed with his latest 20 year old conquest…thinking he can save the world….what an idiot.

2. Fascinated – about growing old and ugly and having no one to share your life with, your wife long dead or flat out left you. The only thing left in the world that excites you is watching the sun set, because that will soon be you. No one in their right mind unless you cough up right amount of cash will creep into your narrow bed….sick

3. Settle down –: about looking for something to do with your life, crazy like a trip to Russia on a strange train to Moscow. About the friends you lose touch with during your “looking” (John is John B), and about friends losing loved ones during their lives ( I wrote this after Dave’s dad died)

7. Coming ashore: folk/pop: about a guy who meets a knock out girl escaping from prison. She rejects his offer of help/love and escapes into the sea from the advancing guards. He sits and waits and waits for days. Finally giving up, he realizes that he has mysteriously lost his taste for whiskey and smokes….

8. Half the time: : about d and t, wondering where she is, still very much in love with someone who doesn’t love him back. He wishes he could go back to his teens and start over again ….with t again, maybe treat her differently, pay more attention to her so that he’ll never lose her. rebuilding a work of art with the love of his life.

9. YLB: : about being afraid of everything including fear itself, FDR would disapprove…”I fear I’m feeling afraid”. Having someone around that you can turn to calm those fears down when they come to the surface. About how the church isn’t/wasn’t any good in calming anyone’s fears…especially mine. Why does god constantly lie to us?

10. The best years: : about a boy who sees a form staring at him from the dark woods around their house. As he grows old, he realizes that he was in fact being stared at by an older version of himself. Not scary, just odd and kinda judgemental…”what the fuck are you gonna do when you grow up little boy?”….like that. He owes to himself the best years of his life until…

He meets his mate. Though all the fucked up family stuff, deaths and estrangements, he still loves her like Alice’s “Mad Hatter”. Now he owes to her the best years of his life.

11. ring out – folk ballad : about the way things should be..according to Tennyson/Van Hook. Alfred Lord Tennyson was poet Laureate of England in the mid 1800’s.

12. clay – folk: wrote this one night when zig and I were sitting around writing songs in ledgewood while gina was in NC with her very ill mother. I wrote the whole thing, words and music in about 5 minutes…almost as I played it. Zig’s guitar is in the background. Just a song about wanting to be a better person yet badly wanting gina back home “trapped in amber” – very selfish thought and hating myself for thinking it, but wrote it anyway so I wouldn’t forget thinking about it
